G Training

Full G lessons: highway speed, real traffic, calm decisions

The full G test is a different exam from the G2. It is less about manoeuvres and more about whether you can be trusted at speed, in traffic, on a highway, making decisions that affect other people. That is what these lessons build.

Who this is for

Is this the right path for you?

If more than one of these sounds like you, it probably is. If none of them do, tell us where you actually are and we will point you at the right option instead.

  • G2 holders approaching the end of their two-year window
  • Drivers who avoid the highway and want that to stop
  • New residents converting experience to an Ontario full licence
  • Anyone confident on local roads but untested at 100 km/h

What you'll cover

The program, stage by stage

Each stage builds on the one before it. We do not move you on because a lesson count says so — we move you on when the skill holds up without you thinking about it.

  1. 1

Merging that does not rely on luck

Reading the gap from the ramp, matching speed before you arrive at the lane, and committing. We practise on real 400-series entrances at real traffic volumes, because a quiet merge teaches nothing.

  2. 2

Lane changes and lane discipline at speed

Multi-lane positioning, keeping right except to pass, managing following distance at highway speed, and changing lanes without disturbing anyone around you.

  3. 3

    Exiting, interchanges and speed transitions

Deceleration lanes, cloverleaf and parclo interchanges, and coming off a 100 km/h highway onto a 60 km/h arterial without carrying speed you should have shed.

  4. 4

    Judgement, hazard response and emergencies

Anticipating other drivers, responding to a hazard without overcorrecting, handling a lane blockage, and staying composed when something unexpected happens at speed.

FAQ

Common questions

  • How is the G test different from the G2?

The G test adds highway driving — merging, lane changes at speed and exiting — and puts more weight on judgement in traffic. The parking manoeuvres that dominate the G2 matter less; how you handle speed and other road users matters more.

  • I have avoided the highway since getting my G2. Is that a problem?

It is very common, and it is exactly what these lessons are for. We build up gradually rather than putting you straight onto a busy 401 on-ramp.

  • What happens if my G2 is about to expire?

Ontario's graduated licensing has time limits on how long you can hold a G2. Check your own expiry date on your licence record and get in touch early — leaving it late limits your options.
